Sorry, Cubs. But the despair of an entire city does not match the unabashed joy of this writer.
We actually won a playoff series.

...and then they lost to the Lady Horses.
haw.
how did the reds make out this year fuck-face? or how about the last 15 years?
it's the funniest thing, i can't remember - every time i try, i'm carried back to the 1990 NL championship game, being drenched in beer from umpteen celebrating 'nati drunkards in fountain square from atop my dad's shoulders. and when i try harder, i seem to recall witnessing an earth-shattering shellacking of the prissing, preening oakland "bash brothers" in the first two games of an unprecedented sweep. wire-to-wire, amigo.
now, tell me about your childhood in los angeles.
well, a-hole, how 'bout this:
One of my very first baseball memories is watching kirk gibson hit the home-run in game one of the '88 series. And then the first biography i believe i ever read was orel's, of which there is still a paperback copy sitting on my desk in my boyhood home.
now, you may say i'm a bandwagon fan because i root for teams that were good when we were kids. but, even as my dad will begrudingly admit, i have stuck by them through heartbreak and dog-shit seasons.
so suck it.
touche. and go 49ers.
